We look at ownership, not output. Anyone can show a polished portfolio piece; we probe for whether a candidate actually made the hard calls, on architecture, performance, trade-offs under a deadline, rather than just executing a well-trodden tutorial pattern.

Both, depending on your stack. Frameworks change faster than fundamentals, so we weight strong engineering judgement highly and treat specific framework experience as a practical filter rather than the whole story.

Yes. As product teams increasingly blur the line between design and frontend engineering, we've placed candidates who sit specifically in that hybrid space, and we know to look for different portfolio evidence than a pure engineering hire.

A first web hire at an early-stage company is closer to a generalist product engineer than a specialist frontend hire; they'll likely touch backend, infrastructure and design decisions too. We calibrate the search, and the interview bar, around that reality rather than a narrow job description.

We can advise on structuring a fair, efficient technical assessment. Take-homes that respect candidates' time tend to convert better than long live-coding sessions, and we'll flag if your current process is likely costing you strong candidates.
